How this list was made

What we checked, and what we did not

We considered 15 builders, shortlisted 10, and list 9.

  • Builds horse barns, covered or enclosed arenas, shops, or barndominium shells, and names Weatherford, Parker County, or a service radius covering it on its own website
  • Phone, address, and website checked against the builder's site and the BBB on the date given; a builder with no website and no published services was left out
  • Construction type, structures, design, financing, warranty, and pricing taken only from the builder's own published pages, quoted or summarized, never inferred
  • No builder in this trade publishes a third-party star rating we could load, so this list is ordered by home base (Parker County first) and then by founding year where published. It is not a quality ranking and nothing on it is sponsored

Every field on every profile is sourced or shown as "not stated". Last checked 2026-11-07. Full method on the about page. Something wrong? Claim or correct a listing.

Buyer's Guide

Building a barn or arena in Parker County: what the listings don't tell you

Where the property sits decides whether you pull a permit at all. Inside Weatherford city limits, the City of Weatherford requires a permit for accessory structures over 200 square feet and a site plan showing property lines; the Building Division is at (817) 598-4284 (city residential permits page). In unincorporated Parker County the county states plainly that it "does not issue building permits or certificates of occupancy" and has no zoning; what it does regulate is on-site sewage, floodplain development, and driveway culverts (Parker County Permitting, 817-598-6175). Full breakdown, including the ETJ and Willow Park, in the permit guide.

The "ag exemption" is a land appraisal, not a barn discount. Parker County Appraisal District values qualifying land on its productivity, not market value; improvements are valued separately, and the Texas Comptroller's own exemption certificate lists "general storage barns, sheds or shelters" as taxable even with an Ag/Timber number. Stalls, corral panels and troughs are on the exempt list. The ag exemption guide has the acreage minimums and the horse rule.

Ground and weather are not uniform. Parker County sits in the Western Cross Timbers; the Master Gardeners describe soils that are "sandy, some are clay, some are shallow and rocky, and others are pure caliche," and the eastern county carries heavier Grand Prairie soils over limestone. One listed builder designs Parker County buildings to a 115 mph three-second-gust wind speed per ASCE 7-16; the city has not published a value, so the number on your stamped drawings is the one that counts. Pad, drainage and a culvert permit (free, but required for every new driveway) come before steel.

Budget from published numbers, not averages. Two listed builders publish prices: Kuykendall Contracting ranges a small 2–3 stall barn at $20,000–$45,000 and metal barns at $25–$55 per square foot installed; Texas Metal Experts puts red-iron barn-and-arena combinations at $45–$85 per square foot and an 80×200 arena-size building from about $509,000. Full table and what moves the number on the cost page.

Timeline. One Weatherford builder states 2–6 weeks of build time once the pad is ready; engineered drawings, county septic approval (if any), and material lead times sit in front of that. Before you sign, run every quote through the 14-row quote comparison checklist: gauge, wind rating, engineering stamp, pad, doors, electrical by a licensed electrician, and who pays the sales tax on materials.
